What is global communication and how has it promoted the globalization witnessed in the past ten years?

Nowadays the world developed faster and faster. What promoted the world to develop? It is communication. The communication all over the world, it is named global communication.
The world became smaller and smaller. Why?  The global communication made the greatest contribution to the world.  Hundred years ago, Edison invented the phone, the phone let people communicate with each other easier and faster. After the Internet was widely used, the world became globalization. People can talk to each other whenever they want and wherever they are. Not only the internet improves the efficiency of communication, the cell phone, email, fax also let the communication easier. The global communication has a profound influence to people. The global communication is very important to us. It is widely used in business, education, culture and politics. It also has promoted the globalization witnessed in the past ten years.
The global communication made a contribution to the world. Especially in the worldwide business, the companies from different countries can make business online; they could have a meeting or negotiate with each other through the internet. There is a lot of website for selling products by individual or companies, such as eBay, Amazon and Alibaba. The salesman can show their products on the website so that the customers just need to click the mouse at home then complete the shopping. Shopping online has become a popular shopping style among people.
Many developing countries get a lot of benefits from the global communication, such as China and India. For example, in the past ten years, China imported many advanced technologies from western countries. It also invited many companies set up their factories in China because of China has cheaper labor force. Not only China, many Asian countries also get much profile from the global communication.
The educations also get the benefits from the global communication. There is more and more students study abroad; they learned the knowledge and culture from other countries. After the students go back to their countries, they will use what they learned to make contribution to the mother land. The colleges from different countries set up many exchange programs for students studying abroad.
The global communication makes the communication among the countries easier. The communication between countries became easier; this will avoid the conflicts. The better communication can lead to framing the better policy and the peace of the world.
The global communication is not all good. The period of global financial crisis becomes shorter because of the globalization. The bank, stock and real estate from different countries are related each other. In the past ten years, there were several global financial crises. The financial crises started in one country and other countries’ financial were getting involved. It is just like a chain, the financial connect with one another closely.
In conclusion, the global communication really made a huge contribution to our lives in the past ten years but it is not perfect. We should enjoy the benefits from the global communication and pay attention to the risk of it at the same time.

The exercises on the Diane Hacker site summary

I did the exercise on active vs. passive verbs. The passive-voice sentences are work better than the sentences in active-voice. For example, the sentence “Jane was encouraged by her supervisor to apply for the new position.”, and “Jane’s supervisor encouraged her to apply for the new position.” In these two sentences, the sentence which is passive is clearer. But sometimes, it is easy to confuse the actor. For more examples. “As the patient undressed, scars were seen on his back, stomach, and thighs. “and “As the patient undressed, the doctor saw scars on his back, stomach ,and thighs.” The first is incorrect. The scars are not seeing anything. They should be seen by someone who is not named on this sentence. The second sentence is correct. It is a clear sentence. The subject , doctor, names the actor make sence.

In one word, the passive-voice sentences sometimes can express the meaning clearer. But we should be careful when we use passive. Sometimes, it is easy to confuse who is the actor and which is the action.

  1. Ha Le     The Antique Box
This is a wonderful story. First, the story is easy to understand for every reader. Second, the logical of paragraphs and outline make sence. Third, the author used a lot of dialogs in her story. The dislogs make the story vivid. What's more, the author used many different words to express the same meanning. As required, every inventory was used. I think this is a good story.

This is a nice story. The word choice and the logical flow of paragraphs are clear. The outline is very clear so that the readers can easily understand what author said. The story of the box

James is a poor guy, but he always has a lot of unusual dream. One night, he had a dream. The dream said to him you will be rich if you travel around the world. He awoke the next morning and told this dream to his wife. His wife didn’t listen to him at all, because James always tells her some strange stories. But this time, James felt that this dream just like a light in the dark, it will lead him to get the wealth. Several days later, James made a decision, he will travel around world.

There is a big problem for him, money. James was not a wealthy man and had to play his drum on the corner of Market so that he could make enough money to live. But the only things he had of wealth were his Mongolian wallet, his grandmothers one hundred year old polish cloth, and his canoe.

One day he decided to sell his canoe which was made by bark and his old cloth to get a better boat so that he could sail his way to travel around the world. What’s more, he sold his Mongolian wallet to get himself food and water for the trip.

On October 1st, he sailed his trip in Los Angeles. China is his first station. After three months trip, James arrived in China. He was hungry and tired so he fell asleep on the quay. After he awoke, he found that there were some chestnuts in his hand. He felt very confused but he still ate up these chestnut, because he really hungry. In China, James met a businessman who named Qian. Qian send him a ancient Chinese stamp. The stamp is a symbol of China, so Qian wanted James brings this stamp to travel around the world. The stamp became the first of his wealth in his trip. Couple weeks later, he sailed his trip again. But this time, unfortunately, he met the storm and the storm brought him to the Singapore. In Singapore, James went to the casino and he won a collection of coins. These were not common coins, they were made by gold. Now, James became a little rich. But he didn’t give up the trip. James sold several of coins to get the food and water for his trip, and he also got a ruler and a map of world.

James sailed his trip again. He set a course to Africa. After a hard trip, James stepped on the Africa. The first person he met is a vase seller. The vase seller said to James, "I am from Africa, my name is May. Actually, I don't have enough money to buy some food for my family, so that is why I’m selling this vase for a coin. This vase was given by my grandfather and it can protect you from whatever happens." James gave seller a coin and he got the vase. In Africa, hand-made was very popular. He bought a statue of a masai as his souvenir in Africa.

His next station is Europe. He arrived in Spain on Christmas Day. People were sending Christmas gifts on the street. James got a gift; it is a mini reproduction of villa. He walked into a restaurant and join people to celebrate the Christmas Day. In James’s Europe trip, he visited Germany, England, and Holland. He learned a lot from people in these countries.

After his Europe trip, he arrived in South America. In Brazil, James wanted to sell his trip souvenir to get money so that he could buy enough food for his further trip. But he didn’t sell anything. When he felt hopeless, the savior appeared. The princess of Brazil gave him a reproduction of women head in wood. That wood head means free, so James could get free food and water by using this wood head. He got all the stuff and went on his trip.

His last station is New York. That means he was on his way home. Two months later, he brought back a lot of his travel souvenir and showed them in the museum. James became a hero in U.S.

As a matter fact, he didn’t become real rich. He had a rich experience which were invaluable.
